In 2022, Olivia met and performed with pianist and improviser Kamilla Arku at International Contemporary Ensemble’s “Ensemble Evo” in New York. Olivia subsequently formed a trio with Kamilla and New York-based vocalist Ruston Ropac to premiere three commissions by AFAB composers, plus work by Olivia.

The Shrew Brew project produced four new works for voice, clarinet and piano that were diverse, yet similar in style, use of experimental technique, focus on improvisation and choice-making, thematic content and in their demands of the instrumentalists and the audience.

Lainie Fefferman’s piece Uterus drew upon samples from people she knew and collections from the audience responded to their relationship with either their uterus or that belonging to someone close to them.

Shara Lunon’s piece Indecision questioned misogynistic assumptions through fixed media electronics and live improvised performance and vocalising.

Carter Crosby’s piece Enacting Travesty used a modular score to enable structured improvisation and choice making from instrumentalists, to analyse our relationships with domestic work and labor that has been historically ascribed to “women.”

Olivia Jones’ work :: virago :: focusses on reproductive rights and abortion activism during the 20th Century through text by Australian feminist writer Helen Garner.
